MyBikeTraffic is a community-driven research project focused on improving cyclist safety, infrastructure, and transportation policy. Data contributed by riders plays a critical role in achieving these goals.

Ride Visibility

Rides uploaded to MyBikeTraffic are public by default. Public rides allow other riders, planners, and researchers to better understand traffic conditions and cycling environments.

Riders may choose to mark individual rides as private. Private rides are not visible to other users and do not appear in public ride lists or maps.

Research Use of Data

MyBikeTraffic may use ride data — including data from private rides — only in aggregated and anonymized form for research, safety analysis, and public-interest reporting.

• Individual rides, whether public or private, are never shared with third parties as raw data.
• No attempts are made to identify individual riders or re-identify anonymized data.
• Research outputs are limited to summaries, statistics, or spatial aggregations designed to protect rider privacy.

Private rides are included in research analyses only to improve the accuracy and completeness of aggregate results and are never exposed individually.

Data Sharing

MyBikeTraffic does not sell, license, or transfer individual ride data to third parties.

Research access is granted only to approved researchers under a Data Sharing Agreement that enforces strict privacy, anonymization, and usage restrictions.

Participation Philosophy

While making rides public is encouraged and strengthens the collective value of the project, riders retain control over the visibility of their own rides.

By uploading rides or using data from this site, you acknowledge that:
